Coco Isle Realty's U.S. Pacific News Watch "Honolulu Safest Of 20 Biggest Cities" By Mike Gordon The Honolulu Advertiser "For the second year in a row, the FBI says Honolulu is the least violent of the nation's 20 largest cities. The agency's nationwide survey, based on its Uniform crime Reports for 1998, also notes that Los Angeles and New York Reported less crime per capita than Honolulu, ranked 16th. "Violent crime figures for Honolulu were ranked lowest of all cities surveyed. The FBI crime report is based on data from cities that vary widely in population: from El Paso, Texas with 512,754 people to New York with 7.3 million. Honolulu is the 10th largest city with 880,272 people. The crime report does not distinguish between urban Honolulu and the rest of Oahu, which are all part of the City & County of Honolulu. "The downward trend in Honolulu crime echoes the attorney general's most recent statewide figures for violent crime, which showed a 15 percent decline for the first six months of 1998. 'We like to think that...is the result of our partnerships with the community,' said Honolulu police Deputy Chief William B. Clark." End This Edition U.S. Pacific News Watch
